Civil War era carte de visite published by Charles Taber & Co. of New Bedford, Massachusetts, with the printed back captioned Major-General Ulysses S. Grant. The card is an error: the engraved portrait on the front is not Grant but a different bearded Union general. Wartime portrait publishers sometimes paired the wrong face with a caption, the same kind of error seen on Prang cards. Engraved bust portrait inside a triple-rule border. Pencil Grant notations on the back, rust-colored stains and surface paper loss above the head, plus general toning and wear.
